Pertious looked across the wooded plain. Sitting atop what amounted for a hill on this near replica of Mundus Planis he searched for the enemy. Nearby the crew of a battery of quad mortars loaded shatter shells into the barrels of their charge. The master of signals was about to cue his vox when Ecladian seemed to appear out of thin air. Pertious raised his bolt pistol up momentarily but then quickly holstered it.
"You've got to stop doing that."
"I'll stop when you catch me doing it," Pertious shook his head as the vigilator pointed toward a massive stump of a long dead tree.
"Beyond those hills the Word Bearers are advancing."
"Compliment?"
"A spartan escorted by three rhinos."
"A spartan? Is the rumor true? Is he-"
Ecladian nodded. "Yes brother. Lorgar himself advances upon us." The master of signals gritted his teeth inside his helmet and cued his vox.
"Enemy approaching. Mechanized. Spartan one. Rhinos three. Spartan is priorty alpha. Repeat. Spartan is priority-" without warning a Spartan, crimson and etched in foul runes burst into view. A cry of "For the Emperor!" erupted from the rapier crew and was echoed by the rest of the Emperor's Children on the field. The battle had begun.
Quick pick of the line after the aftermath of the Word Bearer shooting phase. The best thing about the enemy turn? Lorgar forgot precognition while casting precognition and took a wound. Go go psychic phase!
The left flank of the Emperor's Children. Only one of these four vehicles will survive the end of the game. Can you guess which one? : )
The better painted and far more evil forces of the Word Bearers advance!
Infantry and Ryan's crotch grace our presence! I rushed a tac squad forward to deflect the spartan. The plasma support squad destroy their rhino and they're forced to disembark but as the rhino is only wrecked they are given reprieve from the full brunt of the enemy bolter fire. The spartan pivots and unleashes its deadly cargo into the rocks!
The left flank turns to face the encroaching foe, sadly the Phoenix Contemptor will soon perish to the meltabomb of a crafty Word Bearer sergeant, the rest of his squad cut down around him.
A different angle of the same w/Lorgar, Praetor, and Gal'Vorbak ready to grind their pitiful former brothers into the ground.
The rapiers, vigilator, and master of signals are easily obliterated by Lorgar and his demonic sons. The plasma support squad steps forward, certain death in their future, to unleash the full power of their weapons upon their hated foe!
Ryan: "Hey check it out! That's where your HQ used to be!"
The table at the end of the game. The Javelin is wrecked and the only things alive on the table are my tac squad in rhino in the upper right, the remnants of a Tac squad in the Spartan, my vindicator on the lower left, and the contemtor with conversion beamer. Well fought and one of the closest games I've ever had of 30k. We literally had no idea who won even at the end. In fact at first we thought Ryan had won but two days later he messaged me to say that he had actually lost! Insane!
A little post game posing with some painted figures.
