I know for some club members converted models are kind of an eyesore. The imperial militia/cults are arguably the only army where you could conceivably convert anything and still have it fit in the 30k setting. I'm looking to make an allied task force of Solar Auxilia and have them painted up to look like elite Chemos planetary forces. I would be using Skitarii figures(vanguard heads w/the long rifles as las rifles) to do this. This would be mainly for the availability of certain gear/units. How would everyone feel about this? If it's a big deal I'll gladly just run them as Militia Grenadiers w/bionics or something but I figured I'd put it to the group before going ahead. Link is a picture of someone's example of the conversion: rs420.pbsrc.com/albums/pp289/agurus1/B9C981D7-A456-4856-B989-5A003313D1CF_zpswlyz9wr4.jpg?w=480&h=480&fit=clip

Why are you running them as Solar instead of Imperial Militia?

The issue will be that it will be confusing once skitarii are released for 30k. If you make them look distinct enough I'd say go for it.

Why are you running them as Solar instead of Imperial Militia? I like the feel of their discipline. It seems like something the regular human troops fighting with the Emperor's children would strive for. Additionaly things like the blast chargers and void hardened armour would make them a cool force to run in Mortalis games. They also have the option of running a tank commander which the militia doesn't. Those are the major reasons I'd want to run them as Solar. Felipe I was planning on giving them a pretty distinct paint scheme and mixing in bits from other AM armies(Deathkorps etc). I'll paint up a test one and post it. Also when they do come out with Skitarii I'd probably "pull them from the front" so to speak. I won't have more than a unit or two and a tank commander plus another tank maybe.

While I am not a fan of this and find it rather confusing, they're your models. If you can make them look different enough but still adhere to the Solar theme, then I say try it. However, buying solar models would be a lot easier...

I just wanted to run a force that had the Solar Rules/Options but I assumed that Chemos(Emperor's Children's home world) wouldn't have an army that looked like Solar Auxillia. I'm getting the general vibe that it'd be kinda off putting for most of the club though so I'll just run them as militia.

The reason I ask is that the solar auxilia is a standard solar patterned army/fleet. They pulled from every planet but were trained and armed by terra. No matter what planet you came from you ended up with the same weapons, armor, and training that they all got. It sounds fluff wise you want to do militia.
